Papers of Hermann E. Rothfuss (1903-1988), professor of German at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan, 1944-1970. Professional papers include publications in German; his files as first chairman of Western's foreign study program affiliated with the Padagogische Hoschschule in Berlin, Germany; research materials about German soldiers in the Civil War and drafts for a proposed book (in German, no translation); German Civil War Letters From Hospitals and Prison Camps; A German Michigander in the Civil War, about the experiences of John Weissert, Michigan 1st Engineers and Mechanics, Company C, and a resident of Hastings, Michigan. Anti-Nazi newspapers published in the United States include Neuve Volks-Zeitung, New York, 1942-1949; five issues of Tagliche Volkszeitung, St. Paul-Minneapolis, 1916-1942 (Rothfuss was editor of this paper before coming to Western); miscellaneous German language newspapers and publications.
